Dr. Buchheit is a board-certified physician specializing in regenerative and biologic therapies for treating joint and nerve pain. He founded Triangle Regen Medicine and Biologics Center, serves as an adjunct associate professor at Duke University, and is the author of Healing Joints and Nerves: Immune Stimulation and the New Science of Regenerative Therapies.
Before opening TRM&BC, Dr. Buchheit practiced at Duke University, where he led the Regenerative Pain Therapies Program and conducted research funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. His projects focused on the immune mechanisms that resolve inflammation, reduce pain, and restore health.
Dr. Buchheit is one of the few physicians in the United States offering the Regenokine® Program, which has successfully treated thousands of athletes and individuals suffering from arthritis, nerve, and spine pain.
Read full biographyDr. Buchheit earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University. He attended medical school at Emory University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.
After medical school, he completed his residency in anesthesia and perioperative medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, before returning to North Carolina for a fellowship in interventional pain management at Wake Forest.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Buchheit joined a practice in Raleigh, NC, where he focused on joint and spine interventions. In 2010, he moved his practice to Duke University, where he held several roles, including Chief of Pain Medicine within the Department of Anesthesiology.
In addition to his clinical practice and research, Dr. Buchheit teaches national courses on regenerative therapies, ultrasound diagnostics, and the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.
Dr. Buchheit and his wife Kori live in Chapel Hill. Their three children, Sophie, Wade, and Lucas, are at various stages of their own personal and academic journeys. When Dr. Buchheit is not working, he enjoys riding his bicycle, studying foreign languages, and perfecting his fish dishes.
Max is a certified physician assistant specializing in musculoskeletal health, orthopedic care, and regenerative medicine. He earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Fitness Management from Illinois Wesleyan University.
Licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board and certified by the NCCPA, Max brings hands-on experience in orthopedic surgery with a patient-centered, performance-driven approach — emphasizing precise diagnosis, individualized treatment planning, and restoration of function.
His clinical interests include joint preservation, sports-related injuries, and advanced non-operative treatments, with a particular focus on biologic therapies that support healing and improve long-term outcomes.

Kirsten is a Certified Medical Assistant aiming to become a Physician's Assistant. She is a North Carolina native who earned her Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University. Prior to joining TRM&BC, she spent a year training in New Jersey.
She is delighted to be back in NC, expanding her knowledge and skills in regenerative and biologic medicine. Kirsten is the Quality Management Representative for the Regenokine® Program, ensuring laboratory best practices.
Outside work: Rock climbing, hosting friends and family, relaxing at home with her partner and four cats.
Kian is a Medical Assistant who graduated with honors from the US Air Force Medical Technician program. He is from Nebraska and, through his time in the Air Force, has traveled around the country, settling in Raleigh to join the TRM&BC team.
His experience in the practice has solidified his intentions to seek an advanced professional degree, focusing on regenerative therapies and pain medicine.
Outside work: Travelling, cooking, and running.
Shamitha is a statistics major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in pediatric neurology. Originally from Minnesota, she is passionate about patient-centered care and improving experiences for individuals with neurological and physical conditions.
She currently serves as a Research Assistant at the UNC School of Medicine, contributing to epilepsy research through the analysis of resting state fMRI data. At Triangle Regen Medicine and Biologics Center, she wants to expand her knowledge and skills in regenerative and biologic medicine.
Outside work: Playing volleyball, staying active in the gym, and spending time with friends and family.
