PRP Therapy

Your body has remarkable healing potential. PRP therapy harnesses that power by concentrating the healing components of your own blood and delivering them directly where you need them most.

What is PRP Therapy?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy sourced from your own blood. Blood contains red cells, white cells, and platelets suspended in plasma. Platelets are best known for clotting, but they also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors that are essential for healing.

When we create PRP, we draw a small amount of your blood and process it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. This concentrated solution contains 5-10 times more platelets than normal blood, along with a powerful mix of growth factors that can stimulate tissue repair and reduce inflammation.

Dr. Buchheit uses advanced PRP techniques that generate high concentrations of platelets and growth factors, which research shows produce greater effectiveness in treating osteoarthritis and other degenerative conditions.

What's in PRP?

Growth Factors

Proteins that signal cells to repair tissue, reduce inflammation, and stimulate new blood vessel formation.

Inflammation-resolving Cytokines

Signaling molecules that coordinate the body's healing response and help resolve chronic inflammation.

Conditions Treated with PRP

PRP can treat a wide range of painful joint and nerve conditions by stimulating your body's natural healing response.

What to Expect: The PRP Process

The entire procedure takes about 45-60 minutes from start to finish

1

Blood Draw

We draw blood from your arm with a specialized device.

2

Processing

The blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets.

3

Preparation

The treatment area is cleaned and may be numbed with local anesthetic for comfort.

4

Injection

Using ultrasound, Dr. Buchheit and his team precisely deliver the PRP to the affected area.

Ultrasound-Guided Precision

Dr Buchheit and his team use real-time ultrasound guidance to ensure the precise delivery of PRP to the target area. This technique optimizes effectiveness and safety. Many patients will watch the screen as the procedure is performed.

Enhancing PRP: Combination Therapies

PRP is sometimes combined with other treatments to maximize benefits for your specific condition

Frequently Asked Questions

The blood draw for PRP is similar to many lab tests. For the injection, we commonly use a local anesthetic to numb the area above the target. After the procedure, patients might experience warmth and occasionally mild discomfort. This feeling is caused by immune cell activation that promotes healing. This sensation usually disappears within a few days.

Treatment plans are individualized. Some patients achieve excellent results with a single injection, while others benefit from a series of 2-3 treatments spaced several weeks apart. Dr. Buchheit will discuss your specific situation and recommend a personalized treatment plan.

PRP, like many regenerative therapies, is often not covered by insurance. At TRM&BC, we provide transparent pricing and can offer a statement of services if you want to submit it to your insurance carrier. Many patients find PRP to be cost-effective compared to ongoing medication expenses or the costs and recovery time involved with surgery.

Results vary depending on the condition and its severity. Many patients experience relief lasting 6 months to over a year. Because PRP promotes actual tissue healing rather than just masking symptoms, results can be long-lasting. Some patients benefit from periodic maintenance treatments.

PRP has an excellent safety profile because it uses your own blood, which lowers the chances of allergic reactions or disease transmission. The risk of infection is also low. In fact, PRP can also be used to help heal chronic wounds. Dr. Buchheit and his team routinely use ultrasound guidance to improve accuracy and reduce risk.
